Sonal's stole secrets

High-waist jeans, a bright t-shirt, a slim printed stole and a beatific smile, Jannat girl Sonal Chauhan sure knows how to make a fashion statement this season. Sonal tells CS why the stole is the perfect winter accessory for the city and is must in everybody's wardrobe:

Made for Mumbai
Well, I hail from Delhi where winters are synonymous with coats, sweaters, socks, leggings, monkey caps and so on. But that kind of winter is non-existent in Mumbai. However this year, it has been a pleasant surprise with temperatures touching 15-20 degrees.

A stole is perfect to wrap around yourself in the early mornings or evenings. It weighs next to nothing and easily fits in your bag, perfect for the working Mumbai woman. And they are pretty inexpensive too.u00a0

Multi-functional
Other than providing protection from the cold weather, a stole can serve various purposes. You can use it to jazz up a boring outfit or to hide a wardrobe nuisance, like a stain on your shirt or peeping cleavage. One of the most important uses is that you can cover your head with it when you are out on the road.

It protects your lovely tresses from dust and smoke. And if you want to avoid attention, wrap a stole around your face with a pair of glares.

Fashion accessory
An ethnic printed stole in bright colours looks great with a sexy T-shirt in bold colours and old jeans. A pair of comfy sandals and some nice bangles/earrings will add further charm to your personality. A very thin stole with a bit of bling can be used as a belt tucked into your jeans.

College girls look nice when they wear a stole with an Anarkali skirt and blouse/T-shirt, a la Priety Zinta of Lakshya. But best of all, men too can wear it. A stole with an open necked Indian jacket and Jodhpuris looks fab. Akshay (Kumar) made a roaring fashion statement with his checked woollen stoles and razorback T-shirts in a popular reality show. However, don't make the mistake of wearing colourful stoles with bright tops that looks too garish.

In your closet
As I said before, stoles are inexpensive so you can own quite a few. Well, you need some basic colours like black, white/ivory and grey. I think stoles in all shades of red look hot.

A checked woollen stole is great for the winters. Stoles in pastel shades like peach, mauve, sea green, light yellow also look very beautiful. If you are one for prints, you can try Batik prints, paisley or even blocks depending on your dressing sense.
