Now finally, Khan reveals the man who inspired him to do different roles. He says, "The late Sunil Dutt has always been my inspiration."

He recalls when they shot together for Parampara (1993) and the Dutt Sr. insisted on riding a stubborn horse (ironically named Masoom) considered dangerous by the action-master. "Any other actor including me would have preferred a tame, docile trained horse, as it involves a huge risk.u00a0

But the daring ace equestrian that he used to be, Duttsaab managed to control the horse, which was going berserk, that too on a hilly terrain. And he returned galloping with the mustang totally under his command. Intrigued by his bohemian action, I asked Duttsaab the logic behind his risky decision.

He said that rather than riding a dull, drowsy-looking steed, the audiences would be much more excited if the horse kicked up a fuss and snorted on screen. This risk-ridden attitude of Duttsaab impressed me and stayed with me like a inspiring mantra to do challenging roles, with contrasting looks."

Taking risks

Khan reveals that initially he was sceptical to take up the lead character's role in Ghajini. Incidentally, 'Ghajini', is the first Indian film to be released in Pakistan after the 26/11 terror attack incident, and is being screened in several theatres in Karachi. The actor adds, "It's very heartening to hear this.u00a0

Actually, there's a lot of warmth between the people of both countries. When the Indian cricketing team won there, they cheered and applauded our players. Certainly, there are terror elements in Pakistan and even the common man out there is as affected by the local attacks just as we were traumatised recently.

The people of both the countries should come together to fight terrorism on every level with the support of political leadership," shrugs Khan who refutes rumors that he has declined to play the role of the legendary Guru Dutt in a proposed biopic. "I'd be game to attempt such biopic roles if the script appeals to me," he signs off.
