His upcoming film is a story about five friends who shift to Mumbai to become actors but end up becoming everything but that. The cast of the film is still being decided with actor Ali Fazal already being finalised to play one of the protagonists in the film. The hunt for the lead girl is still on though the film is supposed to be complete by year end.

“I chose Ali because I knew that he can justify the role to the tee. After seeing him work and watching him at close quarters, I can say that he has taken his character a notch higher with his performance,” Rai adds. The veteran director-producer who produced the Marathi film Tingya which won 53 national and international awards, says he simply works on impulse.

He says. “I often bump into people who keep asking me why it took me almost two decades to direct a Hindi feature film. I don’t plan much for the future. I don’t know what I’m going to do next. For instance, as of now, I know I’ll be working on this project till April next year when the film's release will coincide with summer holidays. I don't know what I'm going to do next.”u00a0
