While Bollywood filmmakers have been cashing-in on the trend of remakes and biopics, legendary actress Waheeda Rehman is not in favour of them

Amid reports of biopics being planned on actor-filmmaker Guru Dutt and singer-actor Kishore Kumar, Waheeda feels making a biopic is not the right thing as it leads to showcasing too much of personal details of an artiste.u00a0

"Both Guru Dutt and Kishore Kumar's lives had lots of ups and downs... their lives were heavy and sad. I feel it (film) might turn out to be tragic. Also, it (film) would be like giving out personal details which I feel is not a good idea," Rehman told PTI in an interview here.

Another trend catching up in B-town is remake of old classics in a contemporary style, where the basic premise of the story remains the same but the actress is not in favour of it either. "I don't believe in remakes. I think original films are classics and one can't make it or match upto it (original film) the same way. And even if they do there will be comparisons...it's not a good idea," she said.

With different kind of films being made today, veteran actors like megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and others feel this is the best time to be in the industry. Even Rehman agrees to it.

"I definitely think this is the best time to be in the industry. Earlier, films were made on a set pattern love story, family drama one is rich and other is poor type formulas. But today there are different kinds of films being made and accepted by the audience. I wish I was there in the industry today...I wish I was born in today's time," she said.

The veteran actress, who is the global ambassador of South Africa Indian Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA), feels there are too many award functions these days because of which the citations are losing their charm.

"Awards have lost their charm. Awards are distributed for anything and everything. In our times it would be a nail-biting situation as to who would get award. We would always be curious to know whether we would be winner or not.

The experience of getting an award has completely dissolved," Rehman said. Since Rehman is associated with SAIFTA, she keeps herself abreast of the films that released off late and the performances.

"I really love the kind of films that are being made today. There is an interesting mix of films and we are getting so many different subjects. I love Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda, Vidya Balan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sushant Singh Rajput, Varun Dhawan.

I loved watching films like 'Gangs Of Wasseypur', 'Fukrey'," she added. SAIFTA ceremony would be held in Durban on September 6 where talent from SA and India in the sphere of cinema and television will be felicitated. The event will aim at boosting tourism, business tie-ups and promotion of both countries as ideal movie locations. u00a0
