Set to make her web series debut with Made In Heaven, Zoya Akhtar aims to bust the myth that she helms only big-budget projects
Having romanced the big screen with her masterfully shot films like Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Zoya Akhtar is making her transition to the digital platform. The filmmaker, along with Reema Kagti, is helming a web series titled Made In Heaven. The 10-episode series revolves around two wedding planners based in Delhi.

"The series is shaping up well. We're currently shooting it and hopefully, it will be out by early next year," she said, of the show that will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. Akhtar's shift to the digital platform is also, in a way, her rebuttal to criticism that she only helms big-budget films that focus on the elite. Speaking to us at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, she said, "People have always told me that I make glamorous films, but that is not true."
Akhtar says the critique is a classic case of selective memory bias. "Whatever becomes popular is what defines a person. I got critical acclaim for Luck By Chance [2009], but that doesn't define me. Instead, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara does. But that's how the industry functions."
