Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia, who played the lead roles in the 1993 hit Krantiveer, are conspicuously absent from Mehul Kumar's sequel to the film. Titled Krantiveer The Revolution, the film deals with the power of the media in breaking the system and stars Mehul's daughter, who plays Nana's daughter in the film. The film, says Mehul, is not like Ram Gopal Varma's Rann, which also deals with the power of the media. Krantiveer sequel deals with the problems of the middle class and the role of youth in bringing about social change.

Mehul says that he would have loved to make the sequel much earlier, but sequels were not a viable option till a few years back. Now, with several sequels finding success at the box office, Mehul decided to go ahead with it now.
