To mark Kangana Ranaut’s birthday on March 23, makers of Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivi plan trailer launch in Mumbai and Chennai.
An exclusive still from the film Thalaivi
Thalaivi, the biopic on the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has the potential to go down in Kangana Ranaut’s filmography as one of her most powerful roles. As the perfect gift to the actor, the makers of the trilingual — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu — have decided to launch the trailer on her 34th birthday on March 23. Director AL Vijay and the producers have planned a two-city launch in Mumbai and Chennai, which will be conducted in adherence with safety guidelines.

“The team has lined up a trailer launch and press conference in the Tamil Nadu capital, which will be attended by Kangana, Arvind Swamy, producers Vishnu Induri and Shailesh R Singh. It will be followed by a similar event in Mumbai. However, Arvind, who plays the late MG Ramachandran in the movie, will skip the Mumbai do,” reveals a source.
Jayalalithaa
Pointing out that actor-turned-politician Jayalalithaa’s charisma and power made her a national figure, the director says they had to plan a grand event to stay true to their subject and the scale of the ambitious project. “Thalaivi reflects the life of an inspirational icon. Jayalalithaa was not just an idol for the people of Tamil Nadu, but a renowned personality across the nation. So, we decided to launch the trailer in Chennai and Mumbai,” says Vijay, before heaping praise on his leading lady. “Kangana is a remarkable actor and has adopted the mannerisms of Jayalalithaa for the film.”
