Vatsal Sheth made his Hindi film debut in 2004 with the film ‘Tarzaan- The Wonder Car’. The film directed by Abbas-Mustan also marked the debut of Ayesha Takia. The film boasted a stellar cast including Ajay Devgn, Farida Jalal, Gulshan Grover, Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, among others. While the film did not work at the box office, it achieved cult status when it was viewed on TV and OTT. Years later, Vatsal saw a box office dud in 'Adipurush', which was the most anticipated film of the year.

“It is very upsetting,” he says reacting to the failure of 'Adipurush' for the first time since its release. The film directed by Om Raut starred Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Saif Ali Khan. Vatsal essayed the role of Indrajit, son of Ravana, a great warrior. “For Adipurush, I put in a lot of effort that I have not put in any of my films or projects to date. I had grown a beard, I had done workshops,” he said talking to mid-day.com

“The director had a specific vision for this film and we all went by it. I did not take up any projects during that time. I worked out because he wanted the character of Indrajit in a certain way,” he added saying that the reviews were bad but there was a lot of negativity around the film.

“There was so much negativity around the film that a lot of people did not go and watch it including my close relatives. They assumed that jaayenge toh maar peet hoga. I was like let people decide whether they like it or not. You can’t create this (negativity) around a film. There were issues, but the team accepted them, and it was changed. But there is so much effort that goes into making a film and so many people working hard on it and is just very very heartbreaking. But again that's life,” he said.

Talking about how some of his friends reacted to the film, he said, “I had a few friends who saw it and they were like it is not that bad, as much as people were making it out to be. I actually put in so much efforts, physically and mentally. Unfortunately, things don't work out."

Meanwhile, Vatsal will next be seen in a Gujarati film, which will also mark his debut in the industry. The actor has also wrapped up a show for Amazon and a couple other projects which are yet to be announced.
