Los Angeles: The nominations for the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, and "Game of Thrones" has battled its way to the top with a huge haul of 24, including one in the fiercely competitive category of Outstanding Drama Series.

The globally popular fantasy series will go up against "Better Call Saul", "Downton Abbey", "Homeland", "House of Cards", "Mad Men" and "Orange is the New Black" for the coveted award.
The show has also got 23 other nods, including Best Supporting Actor (Drama) for Peter Dinklage. 'Game of Thrones' stars Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke are competing against each other in the Supporting Actress arena.
Diana Rigg has been nominated in the Guest Actress (Drama) for her role in "Game of Thrones" while her director David Nutter has received a nod in the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series categories.
Thanks to the adaptation of George RR Martin's story, HBO is ruling the nominations with 126 nods, becoming the top contender for at least two years in a row following last year's domination with 99.
Streaming site Netflix also has multiple nods, a total of 34.
Behind "Game of Thrones" is "American Horror Story: Freak Show" which has stacked up an impressive 19 nods. Mini-series "Olive Kitteridge", starring Frances McDormand followed with 13 nods.
Meanwhile, HBO's "Silicon Valley" and "Veep" are vying for Outstanding Comedy Series along with FX's "Louie", ABC's "Modern Family", NBC's "Parks And Recreation", Amazon's "Transparent", and Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Andy Samberg will host the event to be held on September 20.
