The Sherlock star broke a thousand hearts when he got engaged to theatre personality Sophie Hunter but he's convinced his loyal 'Cumberbitches' will grow to love his soon-to-be wife.

The Imitation Game star said, "Since the woman I'm engaged to is as much a part of me as anything else in my life, if they like me, by extension they like her."

Cumberbatch's engagement took the world by surprise earlier this month when his parents announced the news rather traditionally in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times newspaper in London.

The announcement reads: "Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London." Splendid.
