Louis Tomlinson garnered respect for his X Factor performance in December a meager few days after the loss of his beloved mother, Johannah Deakin.
The One Direction gave his first interview since her death. Speaking to SiriusXM Radio, the chart-topper, 25, revealed it was "nice" to have a "send off" for Johannah, 43, whom he was famously close to.
"It's not something that I feel 100 per cent comfortable talking too much about but just quickly, when I first found out the news I kind of did want to throw the towel in," he said.
"But it was my mum who said to me that I've just got to keep going, telling me very sternly that she wanted me to.
"So I'm not doing it for her but... It was tough, but I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send off for her."
Johannah tragically passed away at Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital in December, following a battle with leukaemia, leaving behind seven children.
Louis's comments will no doubt reassure fans that his decision to appear on the ITV talent show's final was the correct one for him.
Louis was supported in the X Factor audience at Wembley Arena by his relatives and thousands of fans.
