In what was a natural progression for her 30-year-long career in films, Madhuri Dixit-Nene turned producer earlier this year with the Netflix original, 15 August. Now, the actor-producer — a champion of regional cinema — has taken her second Marathi production, Panchak, on floors. Offering a comedic take on taboos, the film, she says, holds a mirror up to society's superstitious practices.

"The film revolves around a family, their beliefs and superstitions, which lead to hilarious situations. It is a family comedy, and we hope it will tickle the funny bone," says Dixit, who has reunited with Marathi actor-director Adinath Kothare for the project. Dr Shriram Nene adds that the slice-of-life film resonated with both, Dixit and him, leading them to throw their weight behind the project. "Superstitions can drive us to unreasonable fear. We want to depict that through the film while providing a dose of humour."
