"I think the 'saas-bahu' format shows are here to stay. If I would have been the head of a channel I would put my money on such shows as that is what is working. Women at home love to see such shows. There are new kinds of shows that have come up but some have fallen flat in three months," Mahi told PTI in an interview. The actress, popular for her role of Nakusha in 'Laagi Tujhse Lagan', is in no hurry to do a daily soap until something different and exciting come her way.
"There is nothing exciting happening on TV. I am looking for novelty. I want to focus on quality and not quantity. I don't have to do anything on TV just for the heck of it. I have a husband who takes care of the house, I don't have to work for it," Mahi said. Mahi was recently seen in the role of a gangster in crime series 'Encounter' on small screen.
"It is nice that crime shows are coming on TV. It is informative for the audience about what is happening in the society," she said. The episode depicted the tale of an aspiring actress Aashna, who runs away from her home to become the first woman gangster in the history of underworld.
"We don't see actresses getting to play this strong role of a gangster often. I thought it was a good opportunity to try something new," she said. Mahi's husband, TV personality Jay Bhanushali, is set to make his big screen debut with 'Hate Story 2'.
"I am really happy for him. All my good wishes are with the film and I hope it does well," she said. "It is good that people are not apprehensive of taking TV actors for big or supporting roles in films. There is a space for TV actors in films and that there are good roles written for them," she said. 'Hate Story 2' a revenge thriller, is a sequel to the 2012-film 'Hate Story'.
Produced by T-Series, it stars Jay, Surveen Chawla, Sushant Singh and others. Mahi isn't too keen on doing films unless an interesting offer comes up, but is open to doing reality shows.
