Fancy yourself as a guitarist? Keen to set the charts on fire with a catchy single? You might want to check out Furtados Metal Mania, an ongoing competition organised by the music store in collaboration with Songdew, an online music streaming website for Indie artists.
The competition is simple: you download a backing track created by vocalist and guitarist Sahil ‘The Demonstealer’ Makhija and create an original guitar piece adding a new layer to the track. You have to share the video (through an embedded YouTube link) showing you playing along with the audio track. The contest is open to all guitarists (no bands) and the new track must be an instrumental. “We are looking for someone who has melodic sensibilities, the technicalities of playing guitar, and a good sound,” says Makhija, who also works as a music consultant with Furtados, the iconic music retailer that opened way back in 1865.
Although the backing track is a Metal tune, there is no restriction on genre. “We’ve received over 500 entries thus far, and many of them aren’t just metal. There are some Carnatic versions too,” adds Chinmayi Tripathi, director of marketing, Songdew.
The top three guitarists with the best tracks will win a guitar (choosing from the Epiphone Slash AFD Special II, ESP M10 FR and Epiphone Hummingbird Pro) and other merchandise from Furtados. There’s also the chance that their tracks will be released digitally. The winners will be announced two weeks after the contest ends.
On: Till November 30
