Headlining the festival is Japanese Brutal Death Metal act, Defiled, who will be joined by one of Bangalore’s popular Death Metal acts, Dhwesha. Giving them company is Malaysian act, Malapetaka and Mumbai’s Orion, Asylum and Death Forge.

Considered one of Asia’s most popular Brutal Death Metal Acts, Defiled released their first album, Erupted Wrath, way back in 1999. The band’s international fame came with their third album, Divination in 2003. The band stayed away from releasing any new work till their fourth and last album, In Crisis, was released in 2010.

Currently, touring the Indian subcontinent, the Entombed Metal Fest will be the band’s third stop after the Death Fest in Nepal, and a performance in Bangalore. “For a while, we’ve been keen to host Defiled in India, but somehow, it never worked out. We are happy that it’s happening, finally,” says Sanjeev Gupta, a hardcore Defiled fan who is part of the organising team.

Dhwesha which is the other act to look forward to at this one-day festival will be performing in Mumbai for the first time. “Dhwesha is one of the most popular Metal acts in Bangalore, but the band has never played before in Mumbai. We are hoping that they will be quite an attraction,” adds Gupta.

The Entombed Metal Fest was started in 2012 in Pune, by Frameshift Initiatives, and since then has enjoyed a small, but dedicated fan following. “Metal music is still an Underground genre in India, but it has a sizeable following in Mumbai. It’s not as big as commercial music genres like Rock, Pop or EDM but is rising every year,” he says.

This was one of the main reasons why the festival moved its annual edition, held every year in August to Mumbai, with quarterly events like this organised both in Mumbai and Pune. Gupta also adds that like several other niche music festivals in the city, the Entombed Metal Fest is self-funded by its members.

“More than the money, it’s our passion for Metal music that we organise the festival every year,” asserts Gupta. Fans can purchase band memorabilia and other merchandise at the festival venue.
