It is time to head to Ziro that kicks off its fourth edition in Arunachal Pradesh, from September 24-27. This cool outdoor music festival promises another eclectic line up and breathtakingly beautiful sights. This festival was founded by Bobby Hano and Anup Kutty, from the band Menwhopause, in 2012 and has previously seen the likes of Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo & Steve Shelley and top Indian acts like Sha’air n Func, Indus Creed, Lou Majaw, Madboy Mink and Imphal Talkies. The guide gives you 5 reasons to head here:

1. Ziro Valley: The valley is one of the most beautiful hill stations of Arunachal Pradesh, located at about 1,500 metres above sea level nestled amid pine-clad mountains. The festival site overlooks lush paddy fields and is surrounded by misty peaks. The members of the Apatani tribe, who are the indigenous people of the area, worship nature; once there, you would too.

2. The music:
This year’s line-up includes Myanmar’s Side Effect, Run! It’s the kid, Dualist Inquiry and Prateek Kuhad from Delhi, Koniac Net from Mumbai, Thermal and a Quarter from Bangalore, F16s from Chennai, Mangka from Manipur and Barmer Boys from Rajasthan. This fascinating line-up apart, there will be more bands from the North East and endless music.

3. Food:
The North East is a foodies’ destination — for the slightly adventurous foodie. Every part of this region offers its own preparations of pork and fish. The Pork Momos at Ziro are something to look out for. You can also try their Smoked Pork and Rice Beer.

4. Sanctuary at Ziro:
Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary at Ziro covers 337 sq km and is called a biodiversity zone. The sanctuary is home to various endangered species. These beautiful forests enjoy much less human intervention and are home to diverse flora and fauna. Some of the trees found here include Silver fir trees, orchids, stunning ranges of bamboo and ferns.

5. Arunachal Pradesh:
As you have reached the eastern fringe of the country, it makes sense to see more of the state’s pristine beauty. A visit to Arunachal would be incomplete without experiencing the snow-white shiver of Tawang or the tranquil peace of Bhalukpong.
