A curious legend is linked to the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
In 358 A.D. Madonna appeared in a dream to Pope Liberius asking him to build a church dedicated to her.
The same morning a snowfall whitened the very place where now stands the Basilica: it was on August 5.
Many revellers were photographed clicking selfies and enjoying the 'snow'.
