Along with storybooks, comic books have also played a key role in capturing the imagination of both, children and grown-ups. But how many of us are aware of the work that goes into the colourful panels that make up a comic? Illustrators Abhijeet Kini and Akshay Dhar will come together to conduct a workshop that will introduce enthusiasts to the world of comics — from ideation and writing to creating the illustrations.

"People will get a good idea about what happens behind the scenes, and the kind of work involved, when it comes to making comics," says Kini, an independent comic publisher and founder of Abhijeet Kini Merch. Dhar, a writer and co-founder of Meta-Desi Comics Presents, says, "It’s a way of sharing our experiences with aspiring illustrators, so that they can understand what they are getting into. We are there to help out in whatever way we can."

The workshop, presented by Comic Con India, will be an interactive one. There will be a short presentation, followed by a hands-on session, where participants will get to create their own one-page comic with guidance from the duo.
