The traditional Guru Shishya Parampara in the Indian Classical form of music now has a dynamic new edge to it, with the popularity of web tutorials.

And veteran singer Suresh Wadkar has taken the web route too, with his school Ajivasan. The school, earlier known as Vasant Sangeet Vidyalay, was founded in 1932 in Srinagar by Acharya Jialal Vasant under the patronage of Rameshwari Nehru. And Wadkar was one of his students. It was Wadkar who continued the legacy of the school and established a gurukul and named it, Ajivasan.
The music academy will now offer three models of distance learning through Internet. These include: two-way interactive learning that will teach 24 individuals or classrooms in different parts of the world simultaneously, one-way live streaming sessions by Wadkar that will include lecture demos and concerts held at Ajivasan, and recorded lessons on pay-per-view basis.
