Some time back, while rummaging through junk at Mumbai's Chor Bazaar, artist Nandita Desai, found an old banker's seal. Instead of casting it aside, she ensconced a brass key inside the square seal, framed it with cloth and created an organic statement neckpiece. In another instance, Desai fit ceramic pots within flimsy thermocol pieces to create a kitschy bedside lamp.

These and many other interesting products are part of Beyond The Canvas, her month-old store set up in a ground floor flat at Santacruz. Available by appointment only ("I can't sit here all day selling my products," she says), this is her second viewing room after the one at Colaba, set up around the same time. The products are also sold online, on her website.
