'I don't know how to cope with heartbreak...'

Dear Diana,
I’m 29 and after a five-year relationship my guy suddenly decided to walk away. He just stopped communicating with me one day. He has not yet told me what went wrong and why he had to take such a drastic step. I have asked him, but he refuses to talk to me. As I spent every single day of the past five years with him, I’ve constantly been getting feelings of loneliness, sadness and stress. It is as if I am mourning and I have lost something. I am engulfed by grief. Ever since he dumped me, I’ve not been the same. I don’t know if I will ever get over him. Though I am working, I can’t get him out of my head. I feel a vacuum in my life. I cry often and feel hurt. Sometimes I feel angry at myself for trusting him and letting him control me. I really don’t know how to overcome my heartbreak. He appears to be happy in his new phase of life.

Dear Khurram,
You may be feeling awful and depressed, but this man was surely not worthy of your love. He did not even have the courtesy to tell you what irked him and prompted him take such a drastic decision. It will be difficult, but you will have to get on with your life. When thoughts about him start creeping in, banish them by telling yourself that he just did not love you — if he did, he would not have disappeared from the scene. You will have to find the strength to survive and begin anew. You can pour your heart out to a close friend or a family member. Talking about it won’t let the pain go away, but it will make you feel wanted and not alone. The healing process will take time, but the faster you move on the better for you. Immerse yourself in work, read and if need be take a break and move away from the scene for a while.
