'My guy was taken aback when I spoke about my ex...'

Dear Diana,
I have been hanging out with this guy for a while now. When he told me that he wants to take our relationship to the next level, I burst out crying. When he asked me why I was in tears, I told him about how my ex had left me hanging for years. Though he knew that there was someone on the scene earlier in my life, he was taken aback when I candidly told him about my ex-flame. Ever since his attitude towards me has changed. Should I have not told him about my ex?
— Jasmine

Dear Jasmine,
Do you want to end up getting hurt again? You may have told your guy about your past, but there is no need to tell him the vivid details. Don't repeatedly bring in your past when you are with your present. It is but natural that it will put him off, if you keep comparing what he did not do for you and what your current is doing for you. If you don't want to lose this guy stop comparing.

Dear Diana,
My wedding has been fixed for May at my native place in Gujarat. With every passing day, I find myself more and more unhappy. I feel that it is a wrong decision. My guy and I have already run out of what to talk and do. We have been together for five years, but now suddenly there is a deja vu. What should I do? Should I call off the marriage? I have spoken to my guys and he says these are mere pre-marriage jitters.
— Rohena

Dear Rohena,
Premarriage jitters may be common, but don't be ashamed or embarrassed to talk about your fears. Delay the marriage if you want to. Tell your folks exactly how you feel. There is no point continuing in a relationship which does not excite you. At the same time, however, ask yourself questions about what you are doing is right for you. Follow your intuitions and seek professional counselling to alleviate your fears.
