When it comes to beautiful interiors, the only thing constant is change, a mantra that sends you reaching for those new kitschy lamps and furniture to liven up your living space.

It’s clear that Aradhana Nagpal of Dhoop fame lives by the same rules, as on the 10th anniversary of the store, it has now shifted to a new address, not too far from its previous one.
“The new Dhoop has a fresh range of customisable furniture, lamps and lighting, among other things,” says Nagpal, “We’ve also re-introduced clothing.”
Created by designer Divya Anand, Indricka is an organic clothing line inspired by nature, built from renewable or recycled sources. Nagpal believes the designs will find resonance among Mumbai’s women, especially in the sweltering summer heat.
We scouted around the week-old store and were spoilt for choice. Funky, functional products have always been the draw for Dhoop, and this new collection is no different. “We aim at being Indian, but contemporary,” says Nagpal. Whether it was the inverted incense holder, the butter churner floor lamp or the lamp made of bangles, the designs are deconstructed and simple.
Head to the store for Retyrement Plan’s seating made using recycled tyres and other colourful scraps, hand-painted furniture with owl motifs inspired by the Madhubani and Gond fold art, upcycled truck wood, silk lampshade and accessories and camera stands. The children’s games and toys section include a whole series of Indian games from Kreeda and KEC, hand-knitted toys from a craft group in Kumaon, craft kits, and beautiful handmade books by TARA.
Nagpal has grand plans for the new store. “We can customise our products to suit our customer’s needs. Also, we’re soon introducing hand woven banana fibre fabric in many exotic weaves, which can be used as space dividers and also in window blinds,” she says.
The old store at Union Park is currently on a clearance sale till the end of the month, before it shuts down to give way to the new address.
