The city-based theatre group We Move describes the Kannada play Nannavala Kagada (My Wife's Letter) as 'old wine in a new jar.' Written by noted Kannada theatre author S Gunduu00a0Rao and directed by Hanu Ramsanjeev, the comedy will be staged this weekend after a gap of three years.

But Abhishek Iyengar, director and founder of We Move, clarifies thatu00a0 Nannavala Kagada will hit the stage in a new avatar.

"We have used patch style of theatre; a new couple narrates the story. Their story becomes the subplot of the original play," says Iyengar.

Set in 1970s, the original script of Nannavala Kagada revolves around the aspirations of a young man who wants to be a poet. Fed up of his experiments with words, his illiterate wife visits her mother's place in a village.

Meanwhile, the poet decides to write a script for his housekeeper's play to showcase his poetic abilities. Suddenly he receives a letter from the wife.

However, We Move's version of the play has a twist with Rahul and Seema, the couple narrating the story. Seema, is the daughter of the poet and when Rahul proposes to her through a letter, Seema reveals that she has a phobia of letters.

The background score of the play by Abhishek Narain is unique. "The music is different from the kind we use in Kannada theatre.

The play is set in the 1970s, but we have used Blues that was popular at the beginning of the millennium. With acoustic guitar and drums, the score is beautiful and there's something new for the audience," says Abhishek.
