A group of senior and amateur artists are exhibiting their paintings to support the education of the girl child

In a country that has one of the lowest female literacy rates due to inadequate facilities and a lack of support from families, an NGO and a few artists have come together to support the Girl Child Education Programme.u00a0
The exhibition will feature senior artists such as Chandramohan Kulkarni, Sudhakar Chavan, Milind Mulick, Pandurang Tathe and Falguni Gokhale along with young professionals such as Ajay Deshpande, Dinakar Jadhav, Aditya Shirke and Mukta Awachat-Shirke.

Organisers Friends of children is a non-profit organisation, which has been working for the last eight years in Maharashtra, towards the upliftment of economically challenged college students. The charity art exhibition is titled "Art with Heart" and will be inaugurated on July 2 at the Art2day Gallery who are collaborating for the fund-raising event. Curator Shanth Mannige said that it wasn't an issue convincing the artist to be part of the show. "The artists were supportive once they realised that the entire sum of money will be used for the education of the children."

The exhibition will feature senior artists from the city as well as first timers. "Some of these artists have been part of the art scene for more than three decades while some artists who will be showcasing their work for the first time. I had requested these artists because I personally like their work," added Mannige.

The idea behind the show is to support as many rural girls as possible. "In the villages its taken for granted that the girls will help out at home. But if even a single girl child is educated then they can be of great help to the children. Friends of children has decided that this year whatever funds they generate 70% of it will be spend towards the girls.
