Walk Band

Walk Band is Android's answer to Garage Band. It is probably what Garage Band was a few years ago. You can make drum loops, use pre-made loops for arrangements, play a virtual drum and guitar just like you can on Garage Band. However, the choices of loops are limited, there is no guitar FX, the drum pad is not as responsive. For Android, this is the closest there is to Garage Band, which still makes it a fun experience for novices, and you can use it to make decent music. The one negative—and this is a big one—is the barrage of advertisements that you are forced to watch unless you want to fork out R200 for permanent VIP status.

Make electricity out of thin air

Make electricity out of thin air

Scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have developed a device that can create electricity from moisture in the air. The find was reported in Nature magazine. The device is called Air-gen. The bottom of the film rests on an electrode, while a smaller electrode that covers only part of the nanowire film sits on top. The film adsorbs water vapour from the atmosphere. A combination of the electrical conductivity and surface chemistry of the nanowires, coupled with the fine pores between the nanowires within the film, establishes the conditions that generate an electrical current between the two electrodes.
