The Guide tells you about Pune's Pride Awards, which is set to make a comeback after a seven-year gap and honour worthy Punekaris

In the year 1992, The Residency Club organised the Pune's Pride awards, to commemorate the first anniversary of the club. The awards recognized the contribution of the residents of the city.



Now, its back in a new avatar and will be held this Sunday at the club where it all started. Leena Giri, co-ordinator of the event, said, "This year, the awards have a special significance as we make a comeback after seven long years." The award function was last held in the year 2004.

"These awards offer encouragement to people who with their rigour and sweat have contributed something worthwhile to the society thereby making Pune proud," said Chandrakant Kamble, General Manager of the club.
Around 74 famous dignitaries have been the recipient of the awards including Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Lila Poonawala, Anna Hazare and Osho Rajneesh. The awards are divided into seven categories including sports, academics and social work. Actor Dharmendra will be the Chief Guest at the award function while actor Jackie Shroff will be the Guest of Honour.

The winners are chosen by the club's 12-member advisory council who carefully scrutinize the applicants. The award consists of a medal and memento given away by famous personalities in the presence of club members and the elite of the city.

The list of the awardees for the upcoming function includes Ajay Shirke (for excellence in sports and sports promotion), Sudhir Gadgil (for excellence in arts and culture), Pramod Chaudahri (for excellence in corporate world), Dr Vidya Yeravdekar (for excellence in education), MN Navale (for excellence in social and civic world), Nana Chudasama (lifetime achievement award) and Aditya Raut (Tushar Agarwal Memorial Award for Youth).
