The Living Voices choir will present a whole range of music at a concert tomorrow

Communicating through music

Having performed a number of times at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) on earlier occassions, Living Voices Choir is set to spread magic once again tomorrow. Conductor Blossom Mendonca, who founded the choir in 1982, says that their main aim is to make people enjoy the music.

Earlier, the choir has performed with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra in 1987. They have also participated in the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) season of the operas Cavaleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci and the celebrated Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. They performed Adiemus and Songs of the Sanctuary with the Symphony Orchestra of India conducted by the composer Karl Jenkins. “Our forte is communication through music,” informs Mendonca.

The choir has worked out an interesting mix of music for tomorrow’s show. “We are performing a wide range of chorus pieces from 15th century to Amy Winehouse. Folk songs from South Africa, America, India, classical and pop genres have also been included.

There will also be four solos, including cello and piano, clarinet and piano, classical guitar and solo piano,” says Mendonca. The programme will include works by Grieg, Giampieri, Lecuona, Ketelby, Berlin, Vittoria, John Williams, Tauber, Gjeilo, Dickau among folk songs, spirituals and other popular songs. As Mendonca puts it, there’s something for everyone.
