The Nakshatra Dance Festival will feature performances by dance stalwarts as well as workshops on classical dance forms
The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is hosting the Nakshatra Dance Festival, dedicated to classical forms of dance. This year, the festival aims to exclusivelyu00a0feature group dance choreographies.

Some of the highlights include performances by dance stalwarts like Chitra Visweswaran, Uma Dogra, Sruti Bandopadhay, Ratikant Mohapatra and Sadanam Balakrishnan. The festival also explores workshops on dance scholarships conducted by scholars and dance scholarship holders, and an Odissi group dance choreography workshop by Ratikant Mohapatra.
On October 19 (6.30 pm), Kathak legend Uma Dogra and dancers of the School of Kathak will open the festival. Chitra Visweswaran and the dancers of Chidambaram Dance Academy (7.30 pm) will stage Anubhuti, a Bharatanatyam performance on the many facets of Hindu goddess Shakti.
On October 25, one can watch a Manipuri performance titled Jaya Jaya Bhanu Jaya Jayadeva by Dr Sruti Bandopadhay and troupe. It is based on the Vaishnava verses of Bhanusingher Padabali by Rabindranath Tagore and Jaideva’s Gita Govinda (6.30 pm).On October 26, Nirjharini, a confluence of neo-classical choreography in Odissi by Guru Ratikant Mohapatra and the artistes of Srjan (7 pm) will be staged. On October 27, Sadanam Balakrishnan will perform a Kathakali presentation of Shakespeare’s Othello (6.30 pm).
The workshop series include how to bring your thoughts on paper by Dr Kanak Rele (October 20, 10 am onwards), how to apply for the Charles Wallace Scholarship by recipient Sanjukta Wagh (October 22, 6.30 pm), a talk on the making of the publication Sattriya and Classical dance of Assam by Dr Sunil Kothari (October 23, 6.30 pm).
