Acclaimed French novelist and journalist, Kenize Mourad is in the city for the launch of her latest book, In the City of Gold and Silver, based on the life and contributions of Begum Hazrat Mahal
The latest novel by acclaimed French author Kenize Mourad, is a story set in the 19th century that looks at India’s war of independence led by the valiant and beautiful Begum Hazrat Mahal, the Begum of Awadh.

The author, who is of Turkish-Indian origin is touring India and will be in Mumbai today and tomorrow, where she will interact with students and scholars from the city. Her French novel, De la part de la princesse morte, sold over 1 million copies in France and was translated into 30 languages. She has authored many bestselling novels and her book titled, Regards from the Dead Princess, was based on the true story of her mother, who was an Ottoman princess and granddaughter of the last Sultan of Turkey.
The latest novel, In The City of Gold and Silver, released by Full Circle in India, is about a woman, who in 1857 led a people’s uprising against the British — Begum Hazrat Mahal. She fought against the British East India Company for two long years, and led India’s first move for independence.
The author, who is on a tour of the country, will be in Mumbai today, at the Kitab Khana, and in this event supported by Alliance Française , she will be in discussion with Mangala Sirdeshpande, professor and Head of Department of French (retired), the University of Mumbai. Tomorrow, she will be at Ramnarain Ruia College, after which she plans to visit Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore among several Indian cities.
