Shopaholics will surely be in High Spirits (pun intended) this weekend as lifestyle label Funk Yard India (FYI) will launch their wares at the venue.
FYI is the brainchild of Naina Sahni Parnaik and Rivka Irani and is centered around adding a little bit of funk into everyday life, be it through a hair accessory, clothes, paintings, fridge magnets, chopsticks, a throw for your couch, a handbag or a hat.
Recalling how it all started, Irani said, "We had organised a similar event at German Bakery three years ago and we have revived it now and even started our own brand." The interesting part is that there are no fixed items at this junk yard which includes all sorts of odds and ends. "What you may find this time may not be available another time. It's all about you choosing something that is funky," she added.u00a0
If you are wondering where they sourced the stuff, Rivka explains that they source products from Kashmir, Thailand, France and Morocco. "The next time around, we plan to head into India's villages as we have so much talent within our country. We Indians are a talented bunch. There are so many people in the interior regions who have talent but don't know what to do with it," she states.
FYI aims to cater to an audience ranging from college kids to corporates and homemakers as they believe funk does not discriminate. "With busy schedules, it becomes difficult to travel with the sole intent of shopping. FYI bridges this gap by offering products from various places and recreating destinations for a unique shopping experience. FYI is also showcasing art work by local talent, helping them reveal their inner Picasso."
So, grab your wallets and make a beeline for the Funk Yard sale. "Get your Funk on, find your junk here," she
concludes. Also, if you don't find what you are looking for, don't despair as they will be back soon with another
exhibition of unique knick-knacks.
