The Guide visited London Muffin and was completely bowled over by the new bakery's unique variety of breads

When another bakery opens up in Koregaon Park, we wonder what new offerings will they bring to their counters. Of course, Pune has scope for lovely, warm nooks that waft aromas of bread but somehow, the city has made the word bakery synonymous with desserts. Breads, somewhere down the oven line, have got lost into anonymity. So we walked into London Muffin expecting a bunch of desserts and some whole-wheat and multigrain breads but we came away with a bag-full of divine Japanese breads.

At London Muffin (we don't know why it's named so, considering it belongs to a little Japanese couple), breads, especially Japanese ones, take centrestage. They offer a range of sweet, centre-filled breads, strong crusts with mellow hearts, simple but exceptional loaves and a tiny range of muffins, cheesecakes and cupcakes.
The window display has a range of colourful cupcakes but unfortunately, there aren't any for us to taste.
So, we zone in on the breads. The Soboro Bread (Rs 50) is a wholesome round one with a chunky crumble on a peanut-butter flavoured bun. Then comes the Custard Bread (Rs 60), a little round cushion that oozes
custard cream when broken.

The Walnut Cream Cheese Bread (Rs 170) is a huge round ring, flecked with roasted nuts. Bite into it and the creamy Philadelphia cream cheese sprinkled with walnuts and almonds shall transport you to a world where breads are more than an accompaniment. Finally, it's time for dessert. Theu00a0 lady recommended we try her Green Tea Roll Cake (Rs 100) and she did well. Even though we were leaning towards the chocolate one, this has a whole new flavour. It has the distinct taste of green tea in its sponge and is layered with fresh cream. It's a lovely compliment to your hot lemon tea.

Finally, it's time for the Choco-chip Muffin (Rs 70)u00a0-- soft, gooey and laden with high-quality chocolate, this is a melt-in-your-mouth signature. They have assorted muffin gift boxes and we highly recommend them. They also have a unique red bean bread, donuts, bagels, brownies and cheesecakes. The Japanese lady assures us that all her delights are freshly baked each day at 6 am and we believe her. Her prices are a tad steep but then that's what you pay for quality.u00a0
