How about starting off your day with lip-smacking parfaits such as banana caramel, blueberry cheesecake, or strawberry cream, without piling on the kilos? Natasha Fernandes, who works as a creative director on television shows, prepares and delivers these parfaits as part of her setup, Cereal Killers.
Though parfait is a rich cold dessert that is usually made with whipped cream, eggs, and fruit, Fernandes uses healthy ingredients such oats, muesli, vanilla yogurt, soy milk, fresh fruits and peanut butter.
Breakfast anyone?
The 40-something came up with this idea this March after she and her husband, both fitness freaks, started looking at healthy breakfast options. “We were bored of having the same old items for breakfast and wanted to have something healthy that could also be had as a mid-day snack,” the Versova resident says.
She decided to seek inspiration from her world sojourns for this venture. “I have tasted a variety of cuisines across the world and loved the idea of breakfast parfaits. Gradually, I started experimenting to bring the taste of traditional desserts into breakfast and snacks.” A busy professional, Fernandes wanted to prepare something that could be easily eaten while on the move. “I can carry them to work, refrigerate them and eat them whenever I’m hungry. Since I use natural ingredients, the parfaits are an energy booster,” she adds.
Perfect for kids and senior citizens
They are ideal for children, senior citizens and professionals such as dancers and gymnasts who need more energy. Fernandes says, “Parents are happy as their kids end up eating fruits, cereals and milk with these parfaits. Senior citizens can indulge in them as they aren’t artificially sweetened.”
Although she delivers around 10-25 jars on the weekend, the entrepreneur has no plans of making Cereal Killers a commercial business. “It’s USP is its freshness and I don’t want to jeopardise that,” she signs off.
