Philanthropy platform, HopeMonkey will be raising funds for The Campus Bicycle Project through a multi-artiste musical evening tomorrow
Most of us have had the luxury of being ferried to school through various means of transport — bus, train, car or auto. But, this luxury is a distant dream for many children, who have to face the challenge of covering blistering miles under the sun to reach their educational destination. In order to offer some respite to those kids, micro-philanthropy platform HopeMonkey has organised a fundraiser in collaboration with Blue Frog.

On November 5, HopeMonkey will be raising money for The Campus Bicycle Project, an initiative started by St Xavier’s College students to give bicycles to children in rural Maharashtra to ride to school. Though some children are fortunate enough to be sent to school by their families rather than work, many still face distances as great as 5, 10, and 12 kilometres every day to get to school. By giving these children bicycles, The Campus Bicycle Project is hoping to reduce dropout rates and ensure that children expend their energy studying, rather than in their commute to school.
“Giving the girls these bicycles means giving them access to education. In addition, rather than spending hours walking to and from school in the hot sun each day, they will have both the time and energy to focus on studying, playing, and spending time with their families,” says Anjuli Branz, manager, Special Projects, HopeMonkey.
The event that will see performances by Block a Bus, EatShootLeave, Rang, Zephyr Reunion Gig and Clayton Hogermeer, hopes to raise
R1 lakh, so that The Campus Bicycle Project can fund bicycles to 25 girls in a village in Mokhada (Thane district) to ensure they have a smoother ride to school.
