Kiss off! What Arunoday Singh should learn from Obama

Yeh Saali Zindagi lead Arunoday Singh didn't realise that his 'indecent' lip lock with a Pune collegian would rattle the authorities. We come to the rescue of clueless men who make all the wrong moves when it comes to greeting a woman who is not their girlfriend

Envision this. You're seated in a restaurant, after a lunch meeting, when you spot an old college friend. She's dressed in a suit and appears to be havingu00a0 a formal business lunch as well. You think "what the heck, it's been too long since you two have met to not approach her." Do you:

State of the Union address on Capitol Hill on January 25, 2011 in Washington,
DC. During his speech Obama was expected to focus on the US economy
and increasing education and infrastructure funding while proposing a
three-year partial freeze of domestic programs and $78 billion in military
spending cuts. Pic/AFP

A Approach her, catch her by surprise and envelop her in such a big bear hug that her feet don't touch the ground

B Give her a high 5 and a smack on her butt. After all, that's how you greeted each other in college!

C Kiss her on both cheeks and proceed to remind her of embarrassing college stories without stopping to introduce you to her lunch date

D Wait for a lull in their conversation, walk up, give her a quick hug, leave your contact details and politely leave the conversation. You don't want the other person with her to get the wrong impression. Besides you can always greet her properly when you meet her in a more appropriate surrounding.

If your answer was anything but a D, we suggest you read further before it's too late. Given the recent controversial kiss fiasco at Pune's Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication where Bollywood newbie Arunoday Singh's lip lock with a college student stirred a hornet's nest, we've made things easier for Indian men with a crash course on how to greet a woman who is not your girlfriend.

1 Hit the break, stick to a handshake:
The relationship: Workplace colleagues you have no relationship with outside of work
Meet n' Greet: You meet a fellow female employee elsewhere and think it would be impolite to pretend you didn't see her. Smile, shake hands and take her leave, politely.

2 Kiss on the cheek, but stay away from the beak!
The relationship: A very close friend in a friendly environment (party /shopping mall etc), your mother's friends, aunts and cousins
Meet n' Greet: A hug and even a firm peck on the cheek is appropriate. Make sure you don't peck too close!

3 A kiss in the air will leave no despair:
The relationship: For your social, Page 3 buddies
Meet n' Greet: Air kisses are the only way to go! This will help avoid being over-friendly with someone who will be noticing your every move.

4 A good ole' hug is never too smug
The relationship: An old teacher, your niece, old friends, new friends
Meet n' Greet: A hug is undoubtedly the best way to greet any woman who falls into any of the above-mentioned categories. Affectionate, yet such that the person you're greeting could be left with any wrong impression.
