Manish Arora goes desi, finally

He is known to create lines with a rich palette of psychedelic colours and kitschy motifs in Western silhouettes, but Manish Arora has decided to go Indian, finally. Late, last year, the Delhi-based designer launched — Indian by Manish Arora — a brand that retailsu00a0ethnic women’s wear. Now, he is all set to showcase the brand’s new collection at any fashion week for the first time; the show will be held at the Delhi Couture Week on August 3.

“It’s my inaugural Indian fashion showcase. It’s going to be grand and lavish in tandem with my style. I was just waiting for a befitting time and I think now’s the right time,” says Arora.

The designer, who has been in the industry for more than 15 years, mentions that his collection is inspired from the architecture and detailing inside Buddhist temples. He maintains it is an infallible blend of varied stories juxtaposed together and a vision of experimentation in contemporary art and fashion. The designs range from bright hues to alternate materials fused to create unusual surfaces, creating new patterns to redefine modern feminism and ultra chic style.

Digital prints in his collection have been worked upon with surface textures, which are hand-embroidered with the use of enameled stones, metals and crystals. Hand-embroidered zardozi and appliqué work is applied on the silhouettes. Fabrics like silk crepes, georgette, chiffon and hand-woven silk brocade from Varanasi for detailing has been extensively used.

As far as the hot trends for this year’s wedding season are concerned, Arora stresses that brides would and should always crave for colours and they ought to outshine themselves on their big day. “Bright hues with prolific silhouettes are what brides should look out for. Also, digital prints are the new favourites,” reasons Arora.

Delhi Couture Week will begin on July 31 and go on till August 4.u00a0
