Bob Marley's son, Rohan, was in the city to launch House of Marley, a line of sustainable music products. Five per cent of the proceeds will go to his family organisation, 1Love, and fund charity projects
One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain,” Bob Marley, the legendary Jamaican singer, crooned many years ago. Thirty two years after his death, his family launched House of Marley (HoM), a line of music products made of sustainable materials, in the USA last year.

“We wanted to ensure we did not hurt the environment with our products,” his 40 year-old son Rohan, who was in the city to launch HoM in India, told us over the phone. “We launched HoM to fund our family organisation 1Love. We had already launched it in other Asian countries and finally, we have launched it in India. Our products are made of organic materials such as hemp cotton, wood, recycled plastic and soy-based ink so we don’t harm the environment,” adds Rohan, who is a football player and has played for Canadian Football League’s Ottawa RoughRiders.
As chairman of all the Marley family businesses, he has worked closely on the design, concept and creation of the HoM line. In India, HoM has launched three Marley branded collections — Jammin’, Freedom and Destiny, priced between Rs 1,999 to Rs 25,999. The Jammin’ collection has colourful and vibrant products designed for the youth. Freedom provides a high-end audio experience through modern design sensibilities, while Destiny combines pro-level audio components with premium, natural materials for music lovers.
But why an initiative after so many years of the legendary Jamaican singer’s death, we ask curiously. “We were still in college when Dad passed away. Many people approached us with projects then but all they wanted to do was slap his name on products and make money. For us, 1Love is a movement through which we can partner with charities. All the proceeds of HoM will be directed to 1Love which will in turn partner with charities across the world,” says Rohan, who enjoys playing the drums. “But don’t call me a musician,” he adds jovially.
