With a special focus on digital films from across the world, the 0110 International Digital Film Festival will open with the documentary, Side By Side in Mumbai on February 2.

Currently, in its fifth edition, the festival makes its debut in Mumbai. Over 74 feature films, short films and documentaries — all shot on the digital medium, will be screened.

“Digital filmmaking is the new wave of cinema and has given a huge boost to independent filmmaking. Our aim is to pick the best of these digital films from around the globe and bring it to India,” says festival director, Madhureeta Anand.

Delicious Breakups, a Spanish animation film

Speaking of the Keanu Reeves starrer documentary, Side By Side that opens the festival, she says, “The film looks into how digital cinema has changed Hollywood, discusses its pros and cons, and helps one understand how the technology of cinema is changing.”

Break barriers
Anand says that the film festival aims to screen the best of digital cinema without any linguistic or regional barrier. “So, we have films from Iran, Palestine, Canada and other parts of the world,” she adds.

The World Before Her

And while international cinema makes up for a major part, the festival will also screen documentaries, short films and feature films made by Indian filmmakers. Innuendo, a film made by a Bengaluru-based filmmaker, Arvind Kamath, is making its world premiere at the festival. “Many digital films made in India don’t get screened, so we’ve tried to ensure that they get the space they deserve,” she adds.

Changing trends are also visible in its documentaries such as The World Before Her by Canadian filmmaker, Nisha Pahuja. The film looks at the journeys of two women from India representing two completely different mindsets — a member of Shakti Vahini, the Women’s wing of VHP, and another a Miss India.
