Art lovers might dream of visiting the Venice Biennale. If that still remains a cherished ambition, you can catch French multi-disciplinary artist Camille Henrot's film, The Strife of Love in a Dream, which is being showcased at Jhaveri Contemporary.
Henrot was awarded the Silver Lion at the 55th edition of the festival for this piece. As compelling as the title sounds, it connects the cultural world of the West and the East with clips depicting events as varied as venom extraction (in pic), production of anti-anxiety drugs and the temples of South India.u00a0

The image and the symbolism of the snake is a recurring theme throughout the video and discusses the beliefs related to it in different cultures.
Commissioned by Centre Pompidou for its show Paris-Delhi-Bombay, the video has been shot in India and France. It is inspired by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s idea of India being a dream-like world. Another influence is Sudhir Kakar’s idea of our country as the unconscious of the West. Get bitten.
