House Of Tales, Kala Ghoda's latest entrant, is a cross-disciplinary, contemporary event gallery, which aims to host art exhibitions, comedy skits, design events and lectures
The art district of the city that is clustered in Kala Ghoda and Colaba, has been witnessing a flurry of activities over the last few months, what with new art spaces opening up in rapid succession. One such art space is House Of Tales by Neha Sheth, which has already hosted events, ranging from the international book launch of Monsoon Feast, hosted by Singapore International Foundation, to a weekend pop-up boutique hosted by The Home Label, a shopping portal that showcased Diwali gifting collections selected by celebrity designer Sussanne Roshan.

Filling us in about the venue, Sheth, who is also the director, House Of Tales, says, “The inspiration behind House Of Tales was to introduce a space that is versatile in nature to the neighbourhood of Kala Ghoda where all sorts of events can be hosted. It is in proximity to culinary, design and art hotspots. There is always something to do in this area and the idea was to open a contemporary venue for people to utilise in order to display their talents and trade, or keep their celebration behind closed doors for private occasions.” Sheth, a Liberal Arts graduate who has worked in public relations in Los Angeles was shocked on her return, at how the city had gotten so expensive. “I wanted to introduce a space along with additional services for people to rent on a temporary basis for a fraction of the cost. This brought together House Of Tales, a versatile venue that can be yours to design with your own story, event, and memory,” she reveals, about how the idea took shape.
That Kala Ghoda and its neighbourhood had seen plenty of new restaurants open, and art galleries renting out a section of their space for different events, made House of Tales a practical idea. “Our main aim is to place our host’s brand in the forefront through not just providing a venue for their display, but also promoting their event. Additionally, we assist on event execution, logistical set-up, putting the host in touch with vendors and so forth,”
she explains.
A space like House of Tales makes sound economic sense according to the owner. She elaborates that at a time when property prices are steep and rentals make one do a double-take, House Of Tales is a space that can be rented temporarily for a smaller rental fee than otherwise paid in monthly rentals and overheads.
Sheth is busy considering proposals to host pop-up events, ranging from fashion to food, as well as, bookings for private occasions. Watch this space for the next event.
