After being showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche has finally given a go-ahead to the gorgeous Mission E concept to enter production by 2020. This will be the first fully-electric car from Porsche’s stable and will take on Tesla head-on. With the Mission E, the manufacturer plans to tick all the right boxes. It will be a powerful beast while being mild on the planet.

As far as the looks are concerned, the concept vehicle is aesthetically pleasing. It is a perfect amalgamation of the 918’s sportiness and the Panamera’s design language. Looking at the concept, with a height of just 1300mm, it sits very low on ground which makes it aerodynamically sound. It features materials such as carbon fibre reinforced polymer, aluminium and steel. Looking at the concept, the defined haunches at the rear along with vertically stacked air intakes provide it with a distinct characteristic. The four-point Porsche LED setup is carried forward in the Mission E concept. However, the production version might differ from this concept design. But, on the whole, the concept looks ready to take on any other luxury-electric car in the world.

Talking about the car, Dr Olivier Blume, chairman of Porsche’s executive board said, “It’s a beginning of a new chapter in the history of the sports car.” Porsche has set aside 1 billion euros (approx. Rs 7,443 crore) worth of investment for a new plant where its production will take place. Not shying away from their pedigree for performance, the Mission E is set to churn out 600PS of peak power. That’s impressive for a battery-powered car! Porsche is aiming to create as many as 1,400 jobs for this project alone and that does sound pleasing to our ears.
