Photographs exploring love, relationships and intimacy of the LGBT community are going to be on display at an exhibition titled A Queer photo journey at Tertullia this weekend
Walk into Tertullia this weekend and you will see photographs that re-examine the conventions of a gay relationship and challenge stereotypes of gender, sexuality and identity. The photographs, supporting the cause of the LGBT community are part of an exhibition titled 'The Queer Diaries' or 'A Queer Photo journey'. The exhibition has been organised by Open Space and Birds of a Feather on June 11 and 12. The two-day photo exhibition will have around 45 to 55 photographs on display. The photographs will explore the links between love, intimacy and sex, while showcasing love in different forms, from clich ufffdd romance to sexual intimacy, between men and women.u00a0
Photographer Shashank Tyagi, whose photographs are on display at the exhibition says, "The idea behind the elaborate research and photo shoot is to clear the myths surrounding the community. After section 377 was struck down by the court, I noticed that many people fail to understand the idea behind it. I therefore wanted to change the mindset of people and showcase the subtle and soft side of the community."
The photographs on display are based on four themes. "The first one is Love story 2011 which was shot in New Delhi, capturing its subtle charm as it envelops two lost souls on the journey of love, from the first look to the final union. Then, there is Silent conversations which explores the chemistry between two men through their facial expressions.
Crossing Intimate borders is a series of photographs which explores the sensuality between two gay men, the images are evocative and sensual and Lesbians & Gay is a mixed bag depicting the semantics between two women and it highlights the differences between romantic orientation and sexual orientation," explains Tyagi. The photographer admits that convincing people to come on camera was tough and he hopes many people come to watch the show.
