Save the planet a sapling at a time

Celebrate Republic Day by making a difference to the planet. The Sapling Project, a citizen's movement that focuses on planting and distributing saplings free of cost, is organising a distribution drive at various locations across the city.

You can visit the venues to obtain Neem or Ashoka saplings that can be planted or distributed in your neighbourhood.

For Rs 20, you can even sponsor a sapling. Their aim is to ensure that tree plantation drives benefit residential areas within the city rather than limit themselves to forests and parks.

The Sapling Project has a presence in six cities across India and the more then 15,000 saplings have been planted so far as part of the movement.

While planting a sapling goes a long way, their website also mentions that you must take care of your sapling for at least two years after which it can take care of itself.

And if you need more convincing, here's their mission statement: Because we love the planet, its the only one we have. Don't you want your children / grandchildren to breathe in clean air?
