Launched about a year ago, Clean Planet's range of bags in different designs are contemporary yet classic. With a separate section for each of their product line, the website, which is the brainchild of designer Savitha Rao, offers a wide range of bags with an appeal to the environment-conscious urbanite.

"Rather than just saying carry cloth bags, I wanted to make bags that people would love to carry," says Rao. The idea of starting such a website came about two years back when Rao chanced upon an article talking about the North Pole melting due to global warming. "That was when I figured I want to do something. I decided to design products that would directly help the environment," reminisces Rao.
Their collection comprises of Wise Tote, Tote Officiel, Warm Tote, Compact Tote and Tote Pal. Apart from these there is eco-stationary, eco-gift bags and eco-veggies. Eco-veggies are draw-string bags which can be used to buy and store vegetables in the refrigerator. "People usually use plastic bags to store their veggies. The vegetables develop cold sweat as plastic does not breathe. These cloth bags are a lot better for storage and can be reused too," says Rao.
The Wise Totes are a collection of bags with quotations on life and living by different people. Tote Pals are bags with small quotes on them and have been designed keeping youngsters in mind. "The idea was that a bag can inspire. We are becoming a lot more reactive as a society and perhaps the bags we design might inspire someone to do something for the environment," explains Rao. While the Warm Totes are made from woolen fabric to suit your winter clothing, the Tote Officiels, made from suiting fabric are for corporates and businessmen.
Most designs are unisex and the colours used are restricted to grey, brown, black and cream. "These colours are classic and stylish. We wanted to make such bags that will be in vogue even after five years," says Rao.
Apart from these, CleanPlanet.in has notebooks made from wood-free paper and will soon launch eco-friendly postcards, bookmarks and handkerchiefs as well.
