“The prime objective of the PHBC is to establish a professional platform where pastry professionals across Mumbai can display their individual and combined skills and learn from the experience. We encourage participants to network in a purely businesslike and competitive environment,” says Farzana Gandhi, one of the organisers of the event.
Twenty year-old Rhea Bharucha is one of the participants who has been baking for the past 14 years. “I started baking at the age of 6, and started catering to orders at the age of 16. I am really nervous and excited,” says the Colaba resident, who will take part in the Brownie Ideas and Decorate the Cupcake sections.
Gandhi’s company Hospitality First organised its first bakery and pastry exhibition around six years ago and last year they launched the first edition of PHBC. “Each category will have a Gold, Silver and Bronze winner. And we also have a special prize for the Home Baker of the Year category, for which a participant must take part in at least two competitions,” she signs off.
