After their Bikini Sari won applause globally, designers Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja will unveil their cruise collection for the first time at Fashion Week
While most designers are showcasing their trousseau, festive and winter collections, Shivan and Narresh, who mainly specialise in holiday wear, are gearing to present their cruise collection. “The collection is called Equus, it takes inspiration from the anatomy and depiction of Indian horses in Indian folklore. It’s a cruise collection,” says Narresh.

But is swimwear appropriate for a collection in winter? “As a holiday wear brand, our focus is always on swimwear, resort wear and cruise wear, for all of which, swimsuits are the backbone. Again, it’s winter/festive, that’s why we are doing cruise wear because cruise wear is a glamorous category; even within cruise wear, swimwear tends to be the backbone.u00a0What makes it more glamorous than a spring-summer line is that you need a lot of evening gowns,” informs the Delhi-based designer.
The designers are positive that the swimwear market in India will see an upward swing, soon. They will also present their famous Bikini Sari along with a new version called the Shawl Sari. “It must start from the designers; only then will it trickle down to the masses. It has to eventually open up the market. It’s unfair to say that there isn’t any need — it is not as if Indian women don’t recreate around water,” explains Narresh.u00a0
