After a two-year hiatus, The Prithvi Festival, one of the most prominent theatre festivals in the country, will return next month, with 41 performances spread over two weeks
With a focus on innovation, the new director of Prithvi Theatre (after Sanjna Kapoor handed over the reins to him), brother Kunal Kapoor is determined to instill a rejuvenation in theatre, and the first step towards this was reinstating the Prithvi Festival that started in 1983 but ceased, two years back.

“We are returning with the festival after two years. This year, the theatre fraternity has got together to make this happen, since we still don’t have any sponsors and no grants from the government,” Kapoor revealed at a press conference, yesterday.
He added that this year’s festival will showcase plays such as A Walk In The Woods, Begum Jaan, Between The Lines, Hard Places and Kaifi Aur Mein among others featuring popular actors such as Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Rajit Kapoor and Makarand Deshpande.
Music enthusiasts will also be introduced to musical sessions, titled Acoustic Sunday Jam, which will enable the experience of live and purely acoustic music in the intimate space of the theatre. Theatre buffs can also look forward to screenings, informal performances, meets and exhibitions.
