On paper, Rings Caf ufffd comes across as the sort of restaurant that one would be inclined to dislike. The d ufffdcor presents itself as a Chandni Bar and Barista love child (complete with a Zorro-styled blinking neon Z sign on its ceiling), the attendants are scathingly unfashionable and clueless, while the items on the menu (Garlic Bread) are not available, despite being recommended by its waiters.

Oreo Shake

Post these initial impressions, one wished and hoped that the food would redeem the scene. We started off proceedings with the Corn Cheese Nachos (Rs 99), a scrumptious cheese snack that has been in my repertory since I was about 10 years old. Weighed against my mental scales, this one didn't score high. While the gooey cheese combined with the corn chips wasn't unappetising, it didn't offer a spectacularly unique flavour! And when Sammy Sosa is across the road, serving world-class nachos, you might want to be innovative and dress it up a bit, perhaps add guacamole dip and/or sour cream on top as well. Shockingly, this one was served, minus the salsa! Calls for a Mexican stand-off.

Next, the Spicy Chicken Pizza (Rs 99) was easily the most disappointing part of the meal. It tasted like the kind of pizza, which was served out of bakeries in Bandra in the early '90s. It was possible to break this dish up into pizza dough, pizza sauce, pizza toppings and a part where I could talk about how none of these ingredients came together in synchronous gourmet harmony. Enough not said.

Almost in desperation, we ordered the White Sauce Chicken Pasta (Rs 99). Luckily for Rings Caf ufffd, the white sauce was smooth and the chicken, sparse but tasty. The B ufffdchamel Sauce was made in a way to ensure the butter was kept to a minimum ufffd which was good. Boasting of a bunch of milkshakes, the Oreo Shake (Rs 85) is a classic milk-and-cookies treat. A vanilla shake base, with chunks of crunchy Oreo cookies makes it extra special shake. Ditto for the Kit-Kat Shake (Rs 81) that replaces Oreo with Kit-Kat.

Go for the shakes. Avoid the food!
