It also keeps the heart strong and lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

2. Include green leafy vegetables in diet: Green vegetables are rich in nutrients and fibre. They may not taste great but may act as powerful agents towards promoting a healthy body.

3. Eat a healthy breakfast: The statement ‘breakfast should be like king-size’ is absolutely true. Plan a breakfast meal that contains proteins, minerals, calcium, fibre and vitamins. 5. Lower processed food intake: Processed food items are full of added salt, sugar and preservatives. High intake of processed food raises the risk of blood pressure, which is a major cause of heart attack. Try to eat as less processed food as you can.

6. Quit smoking: Ditching the habit of smoking is the path towards achieving a healthy life. Try out different methods like chewing medicated nicotine gums, lowering number of times you smoke and find out which one works out.

7. Make exercise a habit: Sedentary job is the biggest enemy to diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, and even stroke. Dedicate 20 minutes to half an hour everyday for physical activity. It boosts blood circulation, lowers joint pain, leads to better functioning of the nervous system, strengthens heart muscles, reduces body fat and ensures better functioning of the system.

11. Cut down on stress: A little pressure now can bring in a big health hazard later on. Chronic stress can lead to deadly diseases like diabetes, obesity, insomnia, heart attack and depression. Reasons like long work hours, inadequate stress and lesser family time can contribute to stress. Maintain a balanced lifestyle, keep the work related stress back in office and enjoy a fun-filled time to de-stress yourself.

12. Drink more water: This is not a resolution, but a regular statement your parents must be saying every day. It lowers the chance of dehydration and also prevents deadly diseases like bladder cancer and breast cancer.
