If you've been wanting to buy a few saris, head to this new exhibition that has the whole six yards from different parts of western India

From February 20 till 25, Artisans, which is located in Kala Ghoda, is putting together a show that will put under one roof the different saris that are available in western India. According to the organisers, apart from featuring the traditional, the exhibition will show how the sari in many ways is taking contemporary directions with a number of innovations. So for instance, one of the saris will be made of khadi in shimmering cotton silk. This one, as the organisers put it, is an intriguing combination of handspun and haute couture.u00a0

Among the different saris to be exhibited will include Maheshwaris from Madhya Pradesh, block prints and batiks from Bodhi in Baroda, Ajrakh from Mumbai, and Bandhanis from Kutch. Designers and artisans of the different saris will also be present during the five-day exhibition. These will include designers and artisans from WomenWeave, a group that tries to empower lives of women in rural areas, Bodhi, which is known for its embroidered saris, and other groups like Pracheen and SIDR.
